Whenever something big is happening out there in the real world, a real eclipse, a rare alignment, a once in a decade cosmic dance, something strange happens online.
People will believe almost anything.
The timeline turns into a digital planetarium. Every glowing circle becomes “proof.” Every dramatic shadow becomes “captured live.” And the comment section? It transforms into a courtroom where nobody read the brief but everyone has an opinion.
So while everyone was losing their minds over the actual eclipse, I decided not to even try photograph it.
Instead, I built one.
One circle. Calm. Obedient.
If we’re feeling poetic, call it an ellipse. Then I let another circle take a neat little bite out of it. Added layers of light. Brushed in some smoke. Touched it with colour so it felt expensive. Instant cosmic drama.
No tripod. No waiting. No checking cloud coverage every five minutes. No celestial choreography required.
Too easy.
But here’s the real point.
When something relevant is happening, when the world is already primed and emotionally invested, the bar for belief drops. Context becomes credibility. Timing becomes truth. Post it at the right moment and suddenly pixels feel prophetic.
It wasn’t about astronomy. It was about psychology.
Because when everyone expects to see magic, they don’t question the magician.
The image looked “real-ish”. It cast shadows. It had glow. It had atmosphere. But it had no pulse. No wind. No anticipation. No story of standing outside waiting for the sky to cooperate.
Just shapes behaving themselves in Photoshop.
And yet… it fooled a LOT of people.
Funny how something that never existed can ride the wave of something that did.
That’s the lesson.
In the middle of a real moment, people will believe almost anything that fits the narrative.
Which makes the camera even more important. Because capturing reality is harder than manufacturing it. And harder usually means it matters more.
