More flights than a migrating stork with a media pass.
More memory cards than common sense.
More moments than sleep.
I chased rugby balls across provinces, faced harsh weather conditions, stood ankle-deep in mud that had ambitions of becoming pottery, and filled terabytes with boys who clearly skipped the “handle with care” setting at birth.
These lads are built from protein, not porcelain. They don’t bend. They collide. The kind of collisions that make your camera autofocus stutter.
I captured moments that travelled the world. Tackles that travelled straight into next week.
And a few moments that travelled directly into WhatsApp groups titled “You will not believe this.”
Some images meant everything to parents.
Some meant everything to the players.
And a couple… well… let’s just say they meant everything to the opposition’s revenge list. (Let’s not make any videos that will cause a stir again this year guys!)
That’s derby rugby. It’s not polite. It’s not quiet. It’s loud, fast, emotional and very much airborne.
And I get a front row seat…or shall we say, sideline/touch-line seat again!
The 2026 season is about to erupt, and I’m genuinely excited to be back chasing light, mud, sweat, glory and the split-second stories that last a lifetime.
Big schools.
New heroes.
New memories loading…
