Apparently, somewhere between a rushed headline and a keyboard warrior with Wi-Fi, Penta Motor Group was “sold in its entirety.” Spoiler alert… it wasn’t. Not even close.
Let’s put the kettle on, take a deep breath, and unpack this properly… because facts, unlike rumours, don’t need clickbait.
Thanks to a few over-excited reports… including one from Business Day… the internet decided that Penta Motor Group had packed its bags and been swallowed whole by Motus Holdings.

Which is impressive… considering it didn’t actually happen.
Here’s the actual story (try not to spill your coffee)
Only one dealership branch is involved. Not the group. Not the empire. Not the keys to the kingdom.
The transaction relates solely to Penta Menlyn… and even then, only its Suzuki, Chery, Omoda and Jaecoo operations. And just to keep the lawyers happy… the deal is still subject to suspensive conditions. In other words, it’s not even finished yet.
So no… Penta Motor Group hasn’t been “acquired”, “taken over”, or “absorbed into the Borg collective”.
What’s still very much alive and kicking?
Quite a lot, actually.
Still proudly Penta:
- Penta Montana – Suzuki, Mahindra, Omoda, Jaecoo
- Penta Klerksdorp – Suzuki, Mahindra, Renault
- Penta Potchefstroom – Suzuki
- Penta Brits – Suzuki
And let’s not forget Penta Now… the pre-owned arm that’s quietly spreading across strategic nodes like a well-planned braai invite list.
And the future?
Oh, there is one… despite what WhatsApp University might tell you.
Penta is actively:
Rolling out new franchises with Suzuki, Mahindra, iCaur and GWM. Expanding Penta Now with a laser focus on trusted, high-quality used cars
Doubling down on innovation, adaptability, and not believing everything they read online
Group CEO Philip Botha summed it up politely… thanking partners, stakeholders, OEMs and communities… while also firmly asking media houses to please stop publishing nonsense and issue corrections. Very civil. Very grown-up. Very “we’re still here, thanks”.
Final word? Penta Motor Group hasn’t gone anywhere. It hasn’t been sold. It hasn’t disappeared into a corporate black hole.
It’s still independent… still expanding… and still very much in the driver’s seat.
Moral of the story? Check your facts before flooring it… or you’ll end up doing donuts in the parking lot of embarrassment.
