BMW M2. The Ugly Duckling, Absolute Menace

Let’s address the kidney-shaped elephant in the room.
Yes, the BMW M2 looks… different. Boxy. Angry. Like it skipped leg day but doubled down on chest and shoulders. Internet designers had opinions. Comment sections had meltdowns. Group chats were divided.

But here’s the thing no one tells you until you’re actually behind the wheel: Nobody driving the M2 gives a single damn what you think it looks like.

Because once that 3.0-litre M TwinPower Turbo straight-six clears its throat, aesthetics become a non-issue.

This thing punches out 353 kW and 600 Nm in auto (550nm in Manual) form (yes, I drove the auto — relax, purists). The result? 0–100 km/h in about 4.0 seconds, rear wheels doing all the work, and your spine negotiating terms with the seat.

It’s loud without being obnoxious. Fast without being sterile. And crucially — it still sends power only to the back. Rear-wheel drive. Big boots. As nature intended. With an M Sport diff that feels like it’s reading your mind and occasionally encouraging bad behaviour.

The 8-speed M Steptronic automatic? Surprisingly brilliant. Snappy when you’re hunting apexes, smooth enough when you’re pretending to be responsible. Manual fans will argue till sunrise, but this gearbox doesn’t apologise — it just delivers.

On the road, the M2 feels compact, aggressive, and slightly unhinged. It’s not trying to be pretty. It’s trying to be effective. The steering talks. The chassis listens. And the throttle? The throttle instigates.

Top speed capped at 250 km/h, or 285 km/h if you tick the M Driver’s Package bo… because apparently BMW knows some of you have access to “private roads.”

So yes, it’s a bit strange-looking. Yes, it’s polarising. But once you’re in it, driving it, laughing like an idiot as the revs climb?

You realise the M2 isn’t here to win beauty contests. It’s here to remind you why driving used to feel raw, rude, and ridiculously fun.

And honestly? From the driver’s seat — it looks perfect and is probably the best M car yet… even if it’s not the fastest!
